Work summary
Olivier Brugière's listed work draws on the French COLT and SysCLAD cohorts and concerns early signals and prevention of chronic lung allograft dysfunction (CLAD, the lasting loss of lung function after a lung transplant). A study of 520 recipients examined links between 12-month home-address air pollution levels and lung function, and suggested a deleterious effect of chronic exposure that macrolide antibiotics might modify [DOI 10.1183/13993003.00206-2016]. Blood studies reported that a low frequency of CD9-positive B cells, immune cells linked to graft tolerance, marked higher incidence of bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome (BOS) [DOI 10.1111/ajt.15532], and that an early increase of a cytotoxic T-cell sub-population (CD4+CD57+ILT2+) in 150 recipients was associated with CLAD onset [DOI 10.1016/j.healun.2022.01.013]. A 2024 comparison found that antireflux surgery was independently associated with a lower risk of CLAD at 3 years in patients with gastro-oesophageal reflux, and the authors suggest a preventive effect [DOI 10.1016/j.jhlto.2024.100145]. A 2023 review summarises the SysCLAD predictive work [DOI 10.3389/fmed.2023.1126697].
